Environmental Policy

Karen Brook – Wednesday, June 29, 2011

The Outback Loop® – Birdsville and Innamincka Hotels, believe that we have a responsibility to care for and protect the environment in which we operate.  We will strive to minimise the impact of our tourism operations by committing to wise and sustainable environmental policies such as reducing, reusing and recycling across all of our business activities.  We will do this by:

  • Adopting the highest environmental standards in all areas of operation and continually seeking to improve environmental performance
  • Assessing our business activities regularly and identifying areas that we can minimise impacts
  • Reducing our waste
  • Reducing water consumption
  • Reducing energy
  • Purchasing sustainable products
  • Educating and engaging our staff in environmental practice and making them a part of our solution
  • Reducing environmental risks and safety hazards for employees
  • Continually assessing the environmental impact of The Outback Loop® operation

In addition to this we will commit to engage with Trees for Life to reduce our carbon footprint by the funding of the planting of trees.   We understand that one of the simplest ways to reduce carbon in the atmosphere is to plant trees.

We will do this by:

  • Promoting Trees For Life at major events such as the Birdsville Races and Taste Innamincka
  • Donating a percentage of sales profit to Trees For Life to assist with revegetation projects
  • Encouraging major suppliers to assist/donate or match our donation
  • Displaying Trees For Life promotional material in our Hotels
  • Supporting Trees For Life in their fundraising efforts

We will encourage our business partners and members of the wider community to join us in our endeavours.
